2024 Kia EV9
A Groundbreaking 3-Row Electric SUV

Combining all the spacious comfort of a traditional family SUV with the latest in EV powertrain technology, the EV9 is set to turn the electric SUV market on its head. Here are the key features you can expect when the model arrives later in 2023.

Choice of All-Electric Powertrains

Canadian drivers will be able to choose from two EV9 powertrains focusing on range and performance, respectively. However, both designs are based on the latest fourth-generation battery technology with the highest energy density levels yet seen in a Kia.

The standard setup combines a 99.8-kWh battery with a single electric motor to provide up to 480km of driving range, an ample amount for most daily uses. Alternatively, an available dual-motor configuration creates a combined 379 horsepower and 516lb-ft of torque, passed to all-wheel drive for excellent handling and performance with a target 0-100km/h time of just five seconds.

In both cases, the battery can be topped up using the latest high-speed 230kW DC facilities to minimize charging times out on the road, designed to go from 10-80% in less than 25 minutes. What’s more, the in-built 11kW charger expedites overnight Level 2 charging at home, making the EV9 as versatile as it is powerful.

To complete the next-level EV feature set, the in-built navigation software can automatically calculate the optimum charging stops along your journey, using a combination of estimated arrival times and remaining battery charge as you drive.

Spacious Design

While the EV9’s high-end electric technology is a key selling point, that doesn’t mean the more everyday aspects of the SUV are overlooked. The frame is slightly longer than Kia’s best-selling Telluride, with 501cm length and 198cm width providing plenty of interior space for the three rows of seating. Cargo capacity is also impressively generous, with 521L available with all seats upright, rising to a cavernous 2,320L with second and third rows folded down.

Practicality apart, the EV9’s futuristic design means it has a rugged and confident road presence, offering a modern, angular take on the traditional SUV profile that reflects the advanced engineering lying underneath.

Innovative Interior

The EV9 also breaks new ground with its interior design, using partially recycled materials where possible to maximize comfort while minimizing environmental impact. Dual displays offer full digital instrumentation and infotainment functions, with extra control offered by touch-sensitive surfaces embedded seamlessly into the dash profile.

An optional head-up display provides essential driving information, navigation instructions, and more in full colour, while the available digital rear mirror uses controllable camera views for increased visibility.

The Next Generation of Safety Technology

Lastly, the EV9 also features the latest developments in active safety and driver-assist technology to make every drive as comfortable and safe as possible. Key highlights of the system include:

  • Forward collision avoidance with vehicle, cyclist, and pedestrian detection
  • Intersection collision warnings and avoidance
  • Intelligent speed limit support
  • Lane-keep assist
  • Blind-spot collision warnings with rear cross-traffic avoidance assist
  • Safe-exit alerts to warn of opening doors into traffic
