Autumn Escapes
Best National Parks to Visit in the Fall

From golden forests to serene lakes, Canada’s national parks are home to breathtaking landscapes that are perfect for a fall adventure. The vibrant hues of red, orange, and yellow that blanket the landscape during autumn make these destinations even more captivating. Not to mention the thinner crowds and lower prices! While it’s hard to pick from all of this country’s many offerings, these parks should be at the top of your list.

Yoho National Park, British Columbia

Bordering Banff to the west, Yoho National Park is more of a hidden gem that shines in the fall. The park’s name, derived from a Cree expression of awe and wonder, perfectly encapsulates the experience of visiting this stunning destination. Fall colours here are intense, with the landscape transitioning into deep reds and bright oranges. Emerald Lake is a standout spot; surrounded by golden trees, its crystal-clear waters reflect the autumn colours like a mirror.

Thousand Islands National Park, Ontario

The first national park established east of the Rockies, Thousand Islands is relatively small geographically but larger than life in what it offers. Nestled along the serene waters of the St. Lawrence River, Thousand Islands National Park is made up of over 20 islands and countless islets to explore, and it becomes a tranquil haven in the autumn months. As the leaves turn, the islands are draped in a tapestry of reds, oranges, and yellows, creating a breathtaking contrast against the deep blue waters.

Fundy National Park, New Brunswick

Fundy National Park is another Atlantic gem known for having the highest tides in the world. In autumn, the Acadian forest also comes alive with vibrant colours. The park’s many lookouts and coastal trails provide ample opportunities to soak them in, and the crisp sea air adds a refreshing touch to your visit. The Dickson Falls Trail, in particular, is a short but sweet hike that takes you through a canopy of fiery reds and oranges, leading to a picturesque waterfall.

Prince Edward Island National Park

In the fall, Prince Edward Island National Park’s iconic sand dunes and red sandstone cliffs are punctuated by bursts of colour from the surrounding forests, creating a stunning backdrop for beach walks and coastal hikes. The Greenwich Dunes Trail is a must-visit, with its floating boardwalk taking you through a unique ecosystem of dunes, forests, and wetlands, all highlighted by the brilliant fall hues.

Make memories that will last long after the leaves have fallen. Whether you’re looking for challenging hikes, stunning vistas, or simply a place to relax and enjoy the changing landscape, these parks offer something for everyone during the fall season.
